DPP-UDF Alliance wants to prove ‘last year’s win’

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democratic Front (UDF) Alliance says they are ready for the court-ordered presidential election to prove that DPP won in last year’s tripartite election.

Speaking at a rally he addressed in Salima District Wednesday, the DPP-UDF Alliance’s running mate, Atupele Muluzi, said voting is the only way the alliance will be vindicated.

Muluzi said for the past eleven months the country has been subjected to violence emanating from demonstrations.

“We are very ready to face Tonse Alliance at the ballot. We are not afraid of anything as we know we shall win again.

“The only hope for Malawians is the DPP-UDF Alliance, so let everyone go and vote. This is not time for exchanging words, but let us meet on voting day,” Muluzi said.

He added that there is need for people to live together in peace even though they may have different political affiliations.

A member of DPP governing council, Hetherwick Ntaba, charged that it was wrong for people to be lied to that the fresh election is being held because DPP rigged the 2019 presidential election.

“Voting is the only way that will clear our name from claims of rigging. As an alliance, we know people are aware of the development activities that have happened under the DPP government. So let us meet on voting day,” Ntaba said.

Senior Chief Kalonga of Salima said he was happy that the alliance had its rally in his area and told the leaders that the district has been lagging behind in terms of development.
