State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is also the running mate for Tonse Alliance has vowed to protect Zomba Mountain once the alliance is voted into power in the forthcoming fresh Presidential polls.

Chilima said this while commenting on reports that the Zomba City Council has sold the area around Mulunguzi Dam to unknown people who are developing the area.

United Tranformation Movement (UTM) President warned the City Council to stop selling the land around Mulunguzi Dam.

Chilima was speaking during a political rally held at Gymkhana in Zomba City.

In his remarks he encouraged Zomba residents and Malawians at large to vote for TONSE alliance in order to spearhead the country’s development.
The Vice president further condemned acts of violence that the country has experienced in the past weeks.

Chilima said the only weapon that each citizen can have is to vote on the 23rd June to have a nation that everyone is desiring to have.

Addressing the gathering, he repeated his promises to make sure that Malawians have three meals a day, subsidize prices of fertilizer ,job opportunities to 1 million youths ,descent houses, the fight against corruption, old age pension schemes and education for all just to mention but a few.

He went on to protect the Mulunguzi river which is the source of water for the city and further promise to deal with all encroachers who are selling the catchment area without authorization.

In his remarks he further expressed concern over President Peter Mutharika’s tendency of disrespecting the rule of law.

His sentiments have come following the president’s remarks that last year’s presidential elections were credible despite the constitutional court ruling that nullified the 2019 presidential election and ordered fresh election to be held within 150 days.

However Patron for United transformation movement Noel pointed fingers at the UDF –DPP alliance for escalating political violence in the country.
In his remarks he said the ruling DPP and its partner United Democratic Front UDF are mobilizing the youth to be attacking their opponents Dr Saulos Chilima inclusive.

He gave examples of the recent attacks on the UTM leaders in Phalombe and Machinga describing them as unfortunate and barbaric in the era of democracy where each candidate has a right to campaign.

On this note Masangwi promised Zomba residents that once TONSE alliance is voted into power the then capital city of Malawi will never be the same.

He added that the alliance will bring back the glory which its residents used to boost with under the leadership of Ngwazi Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda.

Taking the podium former President Dr Joyce Banda and leader of the peoples party called on Dr Lazarus Chakwera and Dr Saulos Chilima to consider constructing houses for Malawi Defense Force soldiers and police officers.

In her sentiments she challenged government to direct funds channeled to the fight against Covid-19 to be used for the intended purpose.

The rally saw multitudes of people coming to hear what the alliance had brought for them in relation to the coming polls.
