Kachale clarifies on Woman who was barred from voting in Dedza

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has dismissed reports that a voter in Dedza was barred from voting after her voter certificate was changed.

MEC Chairperson Dr. Chifundo Kachale said this during a media briefing held on Tuesday night aimed at updating Malawians on the progress of the voting in the fresh Presidential polls.

Kachale said the individual registered twice; and could not be allowed to vote using the second voter certificate.

The Supreme Court of Appeal restricted new registered voters from voting in this fresh presidential election.

Fatima Kafwafwa went to Umbwi Polling Centre in Dedza South Constituency to exercise her constitutional right by voting in the fresh polls but she was barred after her voter certificate showed she was a new registered voter.

Kafwafwa then broke into tears.
