Man Battered To Death For Late-Night Walk With Wife

In a shocking incident, a 21-year-old man was allegedly battered to death for taking a late-night stroll with wife in Patiala district of Punjab on Monday. The victim has been identified as Mithun Patel, a native of Bihar.

Police said Mithun was attacked with bricks, stones and a liquor bottle. The victim lived in rented accommodation in the Factory area in Patiala.

The accused have been identified as Jagmohan Singh, a resident Shankarpur village in Patiala district and Bhupinder Singh, a native of Kurukshetra district in Haryana. The accused are still absconding.

As per a report in Hindustan Times, the accused intercepted the victim, his wife and father while the three were taking a night walk near Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib around 12:15 am. According to Mithun’s father, the accused questioned them why they were roaming with a girl in the night.

“As my son told them that she was his wife, they indulged in an argument with him. One of the accused hit Mithun with a liquor bottle while another accused battered him with bricks and stones,” said the victim’s father.

The victim was immediately rushed to Government Rajindra hospital where he died during the treatment.

“A case has been registered against the accused under Section 302 (murder), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), said Gurnam Singh, Station house officer (SHO) Grain Market police station.

“A probe has been initiated into the incident and the accused will be arrested soon,” the SHO added.
