MEC yet to receive MK10 billion from govt

Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has said it is yet to receive the remaining MK10 billion funding for the fresh Presidential polls from treasury.

MEC Chairperson Dr. Chifundo Kachale disclosed this during media briefing at College of Medicine in Blantyre.

“We haven’t received the K10 billion from government. We expect the money to be given to the commission. We believe nobody has an agenda to fail to fund us to frustrate the work we are doing,” said Kachale.
Kachale hinted that his office contacted Chief Secretary to government Mr.Lloyd Muhara on the matter.

Turning to the polls, Kachale said MEC is yet to start receiving results on the Tuesday’s fresh Presidential polls.

Kachale has since asked broadcasters airing results that the results they are airing are not official and the should put a disclaimer.

He said the official results will be announced by the electoral body after all complaints are resolved.
