A 35-year-old man in Chikwawa has been arrested for allegedly defiling an 18-year-old girl who is mentally disturbed.
Chikwawa Police Station, Deputy Public Relations Officer Sergeant Dickson Matemba confirmed the incident and identified the suspect as Mikeyasi Charles who committed the crime on Saturday in the afternoon hours.
Matemba said Charles was coming from a drinking place when along the way to his home he met the girl who he dragged into the bush.
“He was caught red-handed whilst in the evil act by the villagers who brought him to Chikwawa Police Station on the same day.
“The victim was referred to Chikwawa District Hospital for medical examination and medical report revealed that the girl was defiled,” Matemba said.
Meanwhile, Charles has been charged with the offence of defilement of an imbecile which contravenes Section 139 of the Penal Code.
He will soon appear before the court of law.
Charles hails from Bwalo Village in Traditional Authority Kasisi in Chikwawa District.
