17 year-old Boy Commits Suicide In Dowa

A 17-year-old boy has died in Dowa after committing suicide by hanging himself in a tree.

Sub Inspector Gladson M’bumpha, Dowa Police Public Relations Officer said the deceased has been identified as Andrew Symon from Chipura Village in Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa District who commited suicide on Wednesday July 22 2020 at Kainja Village in Dowa.

“It is reported that the deceased was a well known drunkered who was last seen on July 17, 2020 and was found dead by mice hunters on Wednesday.” Explained M’bumpha

According to M’bumpha, the matter was reported to Village Headman Kainja who alerted police about the incident.

“Upon receipt of the matter, police visited the scene accompanied by medical personnel from Dowa District Hospital who confirmed that death was caused due to suffocation secondary to strangulation and no foul play suspected.” He indicated

In a related development, police in Dowa have arrested 19-year-old MacDonald Mike Simeon for allegedly stealing ten goats.

The Dowa Police PRO said the suspect is alleged to have committed the offence on Monday July 21 2020 at Mtimaukanena Village where he stole ten goats belonging to Joseph Kantchere, 55, of Mtimaukanena Village in Traditional Authority Mkukula in Dowa.

“Is it alleged that the goats were discovered missing when other goats came from the grazing areas and the owner of the goats have been searching until on Wednesday July 22 2020 when he came across a certain man who was found with two goats heads, eight hooves and a skin.

After identification, the matter was reported to police for further action leading to the arrest of the suspect and recovered seven goats at Lumbadzi Trading Centre of which two of the goats were already slaughtered.” Explained M’bumpha

He continued; “Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted to have stolen the goats.”

The suspect, who comes from Toyolo Village in Traditional Authority Chitukula in Lilongwe will appear before court soon to answer a charge of theft of cattle.
