Mother Kills Self After Slitting 3-Year-Old Son’s Wrist; Child Had Eyesight Issues

In a shocking murder-suicide case, a 26-year-old woman jumped off to her death from the terrace of her three-storied house after slitting the wrist of her three-year-old son at Satavahana Colony in Hyderabad’s LB Nagar on Monday night. The fatally injured child was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed after a few hours.

The deceased were identified as G Mamatha and her son Riyansh. According to the police, Mamatha’s husband, G Shankaraiah, who deals in battery sales, returned home at around 10 after concluding the day’s work at his shop in LB Nagar.

Upon returning, Shankaraiah was taken by a shock as he noticed his son lying unconscious with a bleeding wrist. Mamatha was not in the house. He took the injured child to a hospital in the vicinity and asked his employee, Vikas Goud to look for Mamatha.

He returned home at around 11 pm after admitting Riyansh in the hospital. He went to the terrace and found Mamatha sitting near the water tank. As he called her, she stood up and jumped off from the terrace, which led to her immediate death. Meanwhile, Riyansh also succumbed at the hospital, according to a report by the Times of India.

“The boy was suffering from eyesight-related problems. Shankaraiah spent over Rs 20 lakh for medical treatment of his son but there was no improvement,” the TOI report quoted LB Nagar Inspector Ashok Reddy as saying. Moreover, the inspector also stated that the mental growth of the child also suffered, which left his parents traumatized. The now-deceased woman’s family said that she took the extreme step because of the health issues of her son, the inspector added
