Pope Francis, the President of the Vatican, accepted the resignation of the US Catholic cleric Michael Mulloy, who was accused of abusing a child in the 1980s.

According to the news in media outlets close to the Vatican, Monsignor Mulloy, who was appointed as the bishop of the city of Duluth, Minnesota, USA in June, was accused in August of sexually harassing a minor in the early 1980s.

Pope Francis accepted Mulloy’s resignation today, while Monsignor Mulloy resigned after being notified of the charges against him.

Mulloy, 66, was normally expected to take office on October 1st.

In the meantime, it was stated in the statement made by the Vatican that the Pope accepted Mulloy’s resignation, but no justification was given for the resignation.
