Mpingwe Sports Club Facing Racism Allegations, Activist Launch Investigations

Discouraging and confirmed reports from Blantyre indicates that there has been a series of humiliating incidents at the Mpingwe sports club as the establishment is said to have denied entry into their premises a couple of black persons.
The latest incident of an unknown black family that had planned to have a feel of Mpingwe sports club services and ended up with trauma after being told that they cant access swimming pool facilities because its for whites and Asians is devastating.
Mpingwe Sports club management denied the family the pleasure to swim because they are black.
Many social media commentators have moved to ask the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, National Unity and Civic Education to open an investigation into the matter as this family was humiliated, shocked and traumatized.
A local human rights organization, Citizens for Progressive Action- CPA has launched investigation into an allegation of racial discrimination against black Malawians by Mpingwe Sports Club in Blantyre.
CPA leader Pemphero Mphande said so far their investigation has unearthed conflicting reports- with some staff at the institution confirming that indeed black people are not allowed into the swimming pool while the top bosses are refuting the allegation.
“Our interest as CPA is to establish the truth of the matter and seek proper course of action. It is our belief that this seems to be a common practice where some institutions in Malawi bar black Malawians from accessing the same,” said Mphande.
Mphande said if confirmed, his organization is going to force Mpingwe Sports Club to apologies to the woman and also petition government to curb the recurrence of cases where black people are discriminated from certain institutions.
