Police, Council Train Kabaza Operators on Road Safety in Mangochi

In a bid to reduce road accidents in the district, Mangochi Police Station in conjuction with town councils have embarked on an intensive one week training with Kabaza operators.
The initiative rolled out on October 5 at Mangochi Town council hall where 47 Kabaza operators from all 7 ranks in town are being drilled on safe driving.
Mangochi Police Station officer senior superintendent Mwizamose Nyoni was the guest of honour at the event and in her opening remarks, she advised the participants to take the training seriously because it will help them in running their daily business and reduce accidents in the district.
“According to our statistics, for the past nine months 44 people have lost their lives in road accidents and 11 out of them are pedal cyclists compared to 7 cyclists out of 49 people who lost their lives in the same period in 2019 hence the training” said Nyoni.
She urged the participants to stop conniving with robbers rather work with the Police in intelligence gathering as informants as they deal with different personalities.
Echoing this, the station’s traffic officer inspector Rhodes Chitera urged the cyclists to adhere to traffic rules at all times and also advised them to stop the tendency of operating their businesses during odd hours to avoid being robbed or killed by criminals.
Speaking on behalf of the CEO, the revenue officer Matola Mposa reminded the participants to adhere to town council laws by registering their bicycles and pay monthly rates in time.
On behalf of the participants, Cosmas Dickson, who operates under Admarc rank applauded Police and the town council for the training.
He assured the officers that they will take the training seriously.
However, Dickson incited poor road infrastructure as one of the challenges in their business.
Meanwhile, the training is expected to target 50 different participants each day
