Woman Struck Dead By Lightning Two Weeks After Her Wedding

Lightning has struck a 24-year-old woman dead only two weeks after her wedding.

Kamuya Nabirye, the unfortunately deceased,  was hit by lightning as she was sitting on a bench inside her house with her 3-month-old baby as it rained heavily on Monday, 5th October.

The unfortunate incident happened in Namukanaga village,  Namungalwe sub-county in the Iganga district of Uganda.

The deceased’s husband, Awali Nabatya, speaking to News Vision Uganda, yesterday, said that he was sharing a bench with his wife that fateful day when suddenly, a bright bolt of light burst through the window of their living room, accompanied by a loud bang.

He then saw his wife drop their baby before hitting the floor herself.

“I realised that there could be trouble and I ran to my neighbours alerting them about what had happened,” he recalled.

Neighbours rushed to the scene but when they got there, she had already passed.

According to the local council secretary for defence, Muzamiru Mudoola, at least four people have died from lightning strikes since the beginning of the year.

He urged the government to provide cheap lightning arresters to the local residents to help prevent such unfortunate incidents.

The Local Council 1 secretary for defence, Muzamiru Mudola, said residents rushed to the scene only to find that Nabirye had already passed on.

The deceased had been married to her husband for only two weeks back, and they had returned from honeymoon only two weeks before the incident.
