Malawi Law Society to Join Women Demos

The Malawi Law Society (MLS) has thrown its weight behind demonstrations against disproportionate gender appointment to public positions.

The protests are expected to kick off at 10 o’clock this morning under the Women’s Manifesto Movement brand.

The activists are against President Lazarus Chakwera’s recent appointments of parastatal boards as well as his cabinet representation which they argue are imbalanced as required by law.

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has also offered to join forces in today’s demonstrations against what is being seen as a raw deal in as far as women representation in public positions is concerned.

Meanwhile, women have started gathering ahead of there march against gender imbalance in public appointments.
