Malawian Priest Clarifies Pope’s Stand on Gay Marriages ‘Pope Did Not Legalize Same-sex Marriages’

Father Petros Mwale of St. Cecilia Catholic Parish, Mzuzu Diocese has illuminated Pope Francis’ remarks on same sex marriages saying the Catholic leader did not legalize same-sex marriages instead he is fighting against discrimination for homosexuals.

In a press statement made available to Faceofmalawi, Father Mwale, is supposing that people must have misquoted the leader out of context when he (Pope) said that “homosexuals have a right to a family”

According to Father Mwale the Pope is against to discrimination and is urging communities to accept homosexuals into their family and regard them as part of the family.

He said: “Homosexuals have a right to be a part of the family. They are children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out, or be made miserable because of it.” The Pope is against discrimination, which is sinful in itself”

While giving out the doctrines of the Catholic Church on marriage, Father Mwale said the church teachers that all sexual acts must be open to procreation and express the symbolism of male-female complementarity.

“Sexual acts between two members of the same gender cannot meet these standards. Homosexuality thus constitutes a tendency towards this sin,” he said.

He further added that the Catholic Church teaches that gay people must be accepted with respect, compassion and sensitivity and that every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.

According to Father Mwale, discrimination itself is a sin.
