Speaker Catherine Gotani Hara Visits Chikwawa Rape Victim

Speaker of the Malawi National Assembly, Right Honourable Catherine Gotani Hara, MP, is today in Chikwawa following the case of an11 year old girl who was violently sexually assaulted on 20th October, 2020.

She has been accompanied by Members of the Parliamentary Women Caucus, Minister of Gender, Chikwawa District Council officials, Malawi Police Service, Plan International, Action Aid, CRECCOM and YONECO.

Currently, the delegation is in a meeting with Chikwawa District Hospital officials, Traditional Authorities and other stakeholders where they are discussing the way forward on the matter.

Meanwhile, the 38 year old man, identified as Leornad Kanyama who brutally defiled the 11 year old girl and dumped her by the road side is in police custody.
