Chakwera launches National Clean-UP Day in Lilongwe

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has today launched the National Cleaning-Up Day at Chinsapo Ground in Lilongwe.

The launch began with sweeping and removing of a pile of solid waste at Chinsapo bus stop.

The President, the Vice president, the Speaker of Parliament, Cabinet Ministers, Development Partners, members of Parliament, members of different Political Parties and the citizenry participated in the Clean-up.

Later the launch the President proceeded to Chinsapo UNICEF ground for the official launch where he said making Malawi a clean Country is one of the changes which his administration wants to achieve.

The President appealed to all Malawians to change their mind set and start working towards ensuring that the environment is kept clean.

Dr Chakwera said the Clean-up day will fall on the second Friday of every Month and appealed to individuals, Organizations, Religious Organizations, Schools and Companies to observe the Clean-up day.

The President also said that he will be participating in the Clean-up day when ever he is free.

The President said solid waste can be recycled and turned into a source of energy, while liquid waste can be turn into other useful materials.

He said that recycling waste would lead in reduction of the amount of disposable garbage.

The President also rebuked Industries Companies that are pollinating rivers with industrial wastes. He appealed for total end to environment pollution by individuals and organizations
.
In her speech Minister of Forestry, Environment and Natural Resources, Hon Nancy Tembo hailed the President for championing efforts to protect the environment and keeping the Country clean.
