Man Cuts Off Lover’s Ring Finger With A Machete

In a rather shocking development, a man in Zimbabwe chopped off his lover’s ring finger with a machete in a  fit of jealous rage after she ended their courtship.

Local publication, iHarare established that Linnet Chihora, 25,  was attacked with a machete on her finger and palm by her former lover Promise Moyo, 27 after she informed him that she was ending their courtship.

Prosecuting, Talent Tadenyika said the incident occurred on 10 February 2020 after Moyo, Chihora and a neighbor Sibusisiwe Nyoni went to see the village head to discuss issues concerning their strained relationship.

Unfortunately, the village head was not able to reconcile the two, resulting in Chihora informing Moyo that she was ending their courtship.

They returned from the village head’s residence at around midnight.

On arrival, Chihora went to her room but Moyo is alleged to have followed and dragged Chihora out of her room.

Moyo who couldn’t fathom the thought of Chihora with another man went into a fit of jealous rage and attacked Chihora with a machete.

Moyo is reported to have chopped off Chihora’s finger so as to ensure that she will not wear any other suitors ring ever again.

She is lucky Nyoni was around as she managed to stop Moyo from further assaulting Chihora as he allegedly attempted to chop off the palm of her hand as well.

Nyoni took her to the hospital and reported the matter at the nearest police station resulting in his arrest.

He was charged with attempted murder when he appeared before Regional Magistrate Phathekile Msipa.

Moyo was sentenced to 10 years in prison, he will, however, serve an effective seven years after three years of the sentence were conditionally suspended.
