BT Councillors rebuffs Chakwera’s allowances

Date:

Councillors from Blantyre mainly for the former ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have protested the Mk20,000 allowance received from President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

President Chakwera on Sunday held a meeting with officials from Blantyre City Council (BCC) including councillors where they discussed a number of issues affecting the city.

After the meeting each coucillor received MK20, 000 allowance but this did not please the councillors.

In a video which has gone viral on social media, the councillors claim that the MK20,000 is too little compared to allowances they used to receive when meeting the then President Peter Mutharika.

According to the councillors, previously they used to receive MK200, 000 each as allowance for meeting Mutharika.

The councillors have since asked the President to revise upwards the allowances.
