In a shocking incident, a 36-year-old man, who is addicted to liquor and gambling, allegedly bet his wife and lost her to his friends, following which the latter sexually assaulted her. The incident happened in Bhagalpur district of Bihar.
Ravi (name changed), a Hassanganj resident, has allowed his friends to rape his wife Asha (name changed) on multiple occasions after betting her and losing the stake. In the latest incident, he lost her to his friends on Saturday. When she refused to go with his friends, he allegedly tried to attack her with acid.
She escaped from her matrimonial house and went to her parents’ home in another village. On Sunday, she sought help from a social activist named Deepak Singh. Following this, police were informed, a case was registered, and Ravi was arrested.
According to a report by The Times of India, Asha and Ravi have been married for over ten years, but they have no kids due to the latter’s alcoholism. Asha told the police that Ravi used to torture her physically for not being able to conceive. On October 28, he, after losing the stake in a game, locked her up in a room with some of his gambler friends who then raped her, she added.
“We will submit the chargesheet soon against the accused after completing the investigation,” Bhagalpur SSP Ashish Bharti told TOI.
In another incident, an Army colonel posted in Kanpur was booked for allegedly raping a friend’s Russian wife at an officers mess after inviting the couple for dinner on Saturday.
The Army officer allegedly offered a sedative-laced drink to his friend, a civilian, to make him unconscious and raped his Russian wife, police said, adding that he also allegedly assaulted the woman when she put up a resistance.
