A clinician at Mchinji District hospital has been arrested for allegedly defiling a seven year-old-girl.
A Police report shows that the suspect, Lovemore Phiri, organised a party at his house where he got drunk.
It says after the party, Phiri offered a lift to the girl, who is daughter to his colleague, and consequently defiled her on the way.
Mchinji Police Officer In-Charge George Mtetemera confirmed the arrest adding that a medical examination was conducted at Mchinji District hospital where it was confirmed that the girl was defiled.
The case comes barely days after the court sentenced a man into a life imprisonment for infecting a teenage girl with HIV.
Recently President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera of Tonse Alliance condemned the act of rape and defilement which is on the rise in the country.
The President further warned traditional healers from encouraging men to sleep with children for retuals, saying once caught they will face the law.
