Tragedy As Man Drowns On Christmas Day In A Swimming Pool

Tragedy struck in Beitbridge when a man drowned in a swimming pool on Christmas day while he was celebrating the festive holidays with a group of friends.

Faceofmalawi established from The Chronicle that the unidentified man who is believed to be in his early 20s drowned in a swimming pool in Tshitaudze suburb in Beitbridge on Christmas Day.

Just like many people this festive season, the deceased and a group of friends decided to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in style.

Reports suggest that the group went to a local recreational park were the unlucky man met his demise.

Inspector Loveness Mangena, Matabeleland South police spokesperson said the body of the man was discovered on boxing day and was taken to Beitbridge District Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

“The man’s body was found at around midday on Boxing Day by one of the workers at the recreation park while cleaning the swimming pool.

“He discovered the corpse and informed his manager who alerted the police.

“The body was retrieved and taken to the mortuary and further investigations are underway,” she said.

In a similar incident, a few days ago a body of an unidentified suspected border jumper was retrieved from the Limpopo River.

The man is believed to have drowned in the river while trying to cross from South Africa to Zimbabwe.

The Chronicle reports that the body was in an advanced state of decomposition when it was located by a herdsman, trapped between some rocks near Panda mine.

As cases of drowning are on the rise during this rainy season, The local Civil Protection Unit has warned communities around Shashe, Umzingwane, and Limpopo rivers to exercise extreme caution when crossing the rivers.
