Chakwera declares three days of national mourning

President Lazarus Chakwera has declared three days of national mourning following the Covid-19-related deaths of two Cabinet ministers Lingson Belekanyama and Sidik Mia.

Chakwera said this during the State of the Nation Address (SONA) currently underway at Kamuzu Palace in the capital Lilongwe.

According to Chakwera, during this three days of mourning national flags will be flying at half-mast in honour of the ministers and Malawians that have succumbed to Covid-19.

Chakwera has since called for an emergency meeting of the presidential taskforce on Covid-19 to discuss further measures.
