Ntcheu Accident Claims Four Lives

Four people, including a driver, have died, and others seriously injured last night after a Freightliner truck registration number KK 8172 / KK 4047 swept pedestrians near Ntcheu Standard Bank along Dedza-Ntcheu M1 Road.

According to Ntcheu Police Public Relations Officer, Hastings Chigalu, the driver of the truck, Matias Mitengo, was heading towards Balaka with three passengers on board.

“In the process of avoiding unknown motor cyclist who was heading same direction, he lost control of the vehicle, going to extreme offside verge where he hit eleven pedestrians before the vehicle overturned,” said Chigalu.

He added, following lowing the impact, the driver and three passengers sustained different degrees of injuries and were pronounced dead upon arrival at Ntcheu District Hospital.

He said eight pedestrians are still receiving medical attention at the hospital.
