A 20-year-old man is in police custody in Phalombe for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 12-year-old girl.
Phalombe Police Publicist, Innocent Moses, says the suspect, Samuel Mbalame, is reported to have committed the offence between October 2020 and January 2021 at John Village in the area of Senior Chief Chiwalo in the district.
Moses says mother to the girl noticed some strange behavior from her daughter and this prompted her to find out.
” Upon asking her what exactly happened, the victim disclosed that she had been sleeping with Samuel Mbalame on several occasions since October 2020,” said Moses.
He said the medical report from Nambazo Health Centre revealed that the girl was defiled and is pregnant.
The suspect will answer a defilement charge contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Code.
Samuel Mbalame hails from Makwinja village, Senior Chief Chiwalo in Phalombe district.
