The world’s tallest dog has sadly died after reaching an impressive eight years old.
The owner of Freddy, Claire Stoneman, says there will be a massive, Great Dane-sized hole in their hearts after revealing to the world that the impressive pooch had passed.
Freddy earned himself a Guinness Book Record in 2016 after being measured at 3ft 4in. But, if he stood on his hind legs, he would tower over everyone at an impressive 7ft 5.5in.
Ms Stoneman, from Essex, said Freddy was such a good dog.
“He was not just the tallest dog but the dog with the most love and the biggest heart,” she said.
“He was my life. My reason. My joy. My annoyance. My happiness and my ultimate sadness. He was my heart Dane. My one in a million and loved by the entire world.’
“As a puppy, he was the runt of the litter. I actually got him a couple of weeks earlier than I should have, as he wasn’t feeding off [his] mum.
“I had no idea he was going to get this big at all.”
The Guinness World Record team remembered Freddy was a bit scared when officials came to his home to measure him for the record.
But, once he calmed down, he happily sat there as they drew a measuring tape over his incredibly long and tall body.
Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief recalls: “Freddy was such a gentle giant, and it was always a pleasure to see him bounding towards you.
“Measuring this mountain of a dog was an unforgettable – if challenging! – experience and I’ll always treasure the couple of occasions I got to share a sofa with him – there was just about enough room for the two of us!
“I still can barely believe that he was the runt of the litter. Freddy brought a smile to everyone’s face and will be missed by every at Guinness World Records.
“I’m just pleased that we got the chance to celebrate his record-breaking immensity in the books and share his story with millions of people around the world. RIP, Freddy.”
The 15-stone (95kg) animal wasn’t easy to feed, with Claire saying she would spend upwards of £500 a month on his food. He would be fed a combination of kibble, minced beef, roast chicken and treats.
The official record holder for history’s tallest dog goes to Zeus from Otsego, Michigan, USA who was measured at 3ft 6ins in 2011.
