Health authorities are revealing that minibus operators are among the various groups earmarked as first recipients of the coronavirus vaccine due for rollout next month.

On Sunday President Lazarus Chakwera announced that Malawi, through the Covax partnership, has settled for the AstraZeneca vaccine which will arrive in the country at the end of this month.

According to the government’s plan, frontline health workers, the elderly and various social service providers will make the first group of recipients of the vaccine.

Health Minister and Presidential Taskforce on Covid-19 co-chairperson Khumbize Chiponda points out that by the nature of their work, minibus and taxi operators among others; fall in the category of social service providers.
