Mia family donates food rations to COVID-19 frontline health workers

The Mia family in conjunction with the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) on Tuesday donated food rations to 400 frontline health workers at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.

The donation came barely a month after the death of Mohammad Sidik Mia who until his death was MCP’s Vice President and Minister of Transport and Industry under the Tonse Alliance government.

Mia succumbed to COVID-19.

Speaking after the donation, MCP Campaign Director, Moses Kunkuyu, said the gesture, which has been made through ‘Feed the Frontline Health Workers’ initiative, is what Mia would have loved to see happening.

Meanwhile, founder of the initiative, Della Kulemeka, has commended the gesture by the Mia family, saying it will go a long way in ensuring that health workers, who are currently overwhelmed with the pandemic, are well taken care of.

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera declared the country as a state of disaster and appealed for help from well-wishers to help in the fight against COVID-19.
