Chisale’s murder attempt case back in court

The High Court in Blantyre has stated hearing a case in which former president Peter Mutharika’s personal body guard Norman Chisale is answering a charge of attempted murder.

Chisale was arrested and charged for allegedly shooting a woman in the knee in Blantyre.

On Monday morning the defence team paraded two witnesses before the court. One of the witnesses is Sigere Amani, the woman allegedly shot by Chisale.

The witness first told the court that she was not interested in testifying on the matter. She said she was convinced the accused did not intentionally shoot at her. In her words, the witness said she had withdrawn the matter with Soche Police, because Mr Chisale was remorseful adding he provided assistance throughout her stay at the hospital until the day she was discharged.

However the State asked for a ten minute adjournment to confer with the witness and later the witnesses proceeded to testify before the court.

She explained events that led to her shooting along Living Waters-Chimwankhunda Road on May 20, 2020. She told the Court that on the fateful day, she just realised she had fallen into a side ditch and was later rushed to Soche Police Station to sort police clearance for medical help.

Later, the accused approached her that he accidentally shot her when he was pursuing some people who wanted to attack him.

She confirmed to the Court that Chisale had confessed to her that he had shot her accidentally when he was pursuing some people whom he thought wanted to attack him.

Judge Sylvester Kalembera who is hearing the matter has adjourned the case to this afternoon.
