EXPERT SUPPORTS AMENDMENT OF POLITICAL PARTIES ACT AMID MW2063

By Saidi Winnes

Political Analyst Caesor Kondowe, has concurred with government’s intent to amend political parties Act to align Malawi’s long-term development agenda MW2063.

Government disclosed this in Parliament this week, through Vice President Dr.Saulos Chilima, who is also Minister responsible for economic planning and public sector reforms.

Dr.Chilima disclosed that government is planning to amend the political parties Act to align Malawi’s long-term development vision MW2063.

Speaking to faceofmalawi, Caesor Kondowe supported the decision saying that the amendment of political parties Act will enable parties to design their manifestos in line with the vision 2063.

” I would concur with Vice President that the MW2063 should be aligned with political parties Act.Because basically, the challenges that this nation has, is that we have different political parties, these political parties have got their own manifestos, so these manifestos are government agendas. Once they are ushered into power, they will be using those manifestos to drive this country; uttered Kondowe.

The Political Analyst added that government should take lessons from the challenges that made vision 2020 to fail to materialize, hence the political parties Act was not in line with the vision.

Kondowe, who is also the Director of Stream of Life Malawi, then highlited that the possible challenge that can be hindrance to the implementation of MW2063 is that, power is centralized in the hands of very few people who tenaciously control government resources.

Lack of political will has also been singled out as the biggest challenge facing the nation.

“We want leaders that can see public sector performing to the best, not leaders that can concentrate on human capital development ” said Kondowe.

Political Expert further articulated that, inclusive wealthy creation is possible with the country’s own resources, not just depending on the funding from donors as it was with the Malawi Vision 2020.

” 2020 vision solely depended on donor, but this country can spearhead wealthy creation by our own, for instance, the issue of industrialisation, the issue of entrepreneurship. These are the areas that the country can generate more resources and implement this vision, if our leaders are truly need to transform this nation; said Kondowe.

MW2063 was launched last month by the President Dr.Lazarus Chakwera. The vision highlights much inclusive wealthy creation amongst Malawians.
