Biden Administration Gives $86 Million For Hotel Rooms For Migrants

President Joe Biden provides $86 million to house migrants near the American-Mexican border.

After it was revealed that Border Patrol agents in the Rio Grande Valley Sector began releasing migrants into the US without issuing a court date, now President Biden is reportedly spending $86 million on hotel rooms for the border crossers.

On February 2, in an official statement, Biden claimed he would be taking on a “top-to-bottom review of recent regulations, policies, and guidance that have set up barriers to our legal immigration system.” This announcement was the President’s response to the fallout of Trump’s immigration policy, as UNILAD notes.

Now, the Biden administration has obtained a multi-million contract for providing housing to migrants.

As per Axios, the President will be spending $86 million for hotel rooms for 1,200 family members seeking asylum in the US. Migrants will be allowed to live in the housing provided by the administration for a period of six months. The contract was awarded via Endeavors – a Texas-based organization serving people in crisis.

Biden’s decision comes as the number of migrants seeking a new life in the US has dramatically increased.

According to the Washington Post, up to two million people have entered the states this year alone. Nearly 19,000 migrants have crossed the southwestern border between January and February. The US has accepted 13,000 of them, often releasing them into border communities.

Moreover, CNN reports that over 5,000 unaccompanied children are being held in Customs and Border Protection custody. Shockingly, more than 600 kids have been detained for nearly two weeks, despite the law stating that unaccompanied children must be transferred to the Department of Health and Human Services within 72 hours.

As USA Today reveals, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy blames President Biden for the overwhelming “border crisis.” He stated:

“It’s more than a crisis, this is a human heartbreak. The sad part about all this, didn’t have to happen. This crisis is created by the presidential policies of this new administration. There’s no other way to claim it than a Biden border crisis.”

Last week, the House voted in favor of the ‘Dreamers’ act providing a pathway for migrants in the US. The American Dream and Promise Act will give temporary protection to young undocumented immigrants brought to America as children.
