Court stops govt from firing Mathanga, Kunje at MEC

Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) commissioners Linda Kunje and Jean Mathanga have obtained an injunction restraining the government from firing them from the commission.

Kunje confirmed the development, saying they are back at Mec as commissioners.

The stay was issued by the registrar of the High Court who has also also granted a request by the two MEC commissioners for a judicial review of the decision taken by the office of the president and Cabinet in this case.

The registrar has urged the complainants to file an application with a judge of the High Court who shall promptly hear it out in open court.
