Two men are in police custody in Chikwawa District on suspicion that they stole Illovo Sugar Company sugarcanes, Chikwawa Police Station spokesperson Dickson Matemba has confirmed the development.
Matemba has identified the suspects as 32-year-old Josam Richard from Malata Village and 18-year-old Justin Mikiloni of Mitengo Village, both from Traditional Authority Makhwira in the district.
“The suspects were apprehended following a joint operation which Chikwawa Police and Illovo security guards conducted at Mapelera, Nkhate, Mitondo, and Livunzu trading centers along Eastbank Road,” he Said Matemba.
The law enforcers also impounded a 10-tonne truck loaded with sugarcanes and two ox-carts, all of which are being kept at Chikwawa Police Station.
The two will soon appear before the court soon according to Matemba.
