Late Dr Justin Malewezi who was the country’s first Vice President in a multiparty dispensation will be laid to rest Saturday, April 24.
The Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) has announced in a statement.
According to OPC, President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has directed that late Dr Malewezi be honoured with a State funeral.
“The body of Dr Malewezi, who died in Lilongwe on Saturday, April 17, 2021, will today be taken from Goodwill Funeral Parlour to his residence in Likuni for a vigil.
“The Funeral Service for the late Rt. Hon. Dr Malewezi will be held at Likuni Boys Secondary School ground on Saturday 24th of April, 2021 from 08:00 am followed by burial in Likuni,” reads the statement in part.
The statement adds that Dr Malewezi served the Nation as Vice President of the Republic of Malawi from 1994 to 2004.
