Boy, 11, Jumped From School Bus To Escape Bullies, His Father Says

Georgia boy, 11, jumped out of a school bus window to escape bullying, his father claims.

Dion Murphy, the father of the middle school student who jumped out of a school bus window last week, says his son was desperately trying to escape bullies, as FOX News reports.

Speaking to FOX5 Atlanta, the concerned parent explained that older students have been bullying his son aboard the bus this school year. Mr. Murphy even said he stumbled upon footage of the latest incident with the Youth Middle School principal on Friday. He described the video:

“One student jumped in his face, he was pushing him against the window, when he fell, the other student took his shoe and in a desperate attempt to escape it, he jumped out the window.”

After jumping from the school bus, the boy landed on top of a passing pickup truck and fell onto the highway.

Following the distressing occurrence, the child suffered a concussion and a broken elbow. Reportedly he is no longer enrolled at Youth Middle School.

Mr. Murphy said the incident broke his heart. He claimed that it was not the first time his son had been a victim of bullies. Unfortunately, even after he discussed the matter with school leaders, the abuse continued. He explained:

“There’s more tapes and that’s why I’m so upset because the school neglected the bullying act and did not do anything about it. They took it as horse-play, but my son could have lost his life.”

Responding to the situation, the school stated:

“The Walton County School District does not tolerate bullying and harassment of any kind. The incident is being thoroughly investigated by school officials and any disciplinary issues that may arise will be handled appropriately at the school level.”
