Minister of Home land Security Richard Chimwendo Banda has said national identity cards will expire after ten years.
Currently, three million IDs will expire this year after their issuance.
He says this is because people have been complaining that the period is too short.
Chimwendo Banda has said government’s wish is to have national IDs which do not expire but at the moment the IDs will be expiring after ten years.
Meanwhile, Chimwendo Banda has said government has hired two hundred interns to assist in the renewing and registration of IDs in wards
Out of three million cards that are expiring this year, about 100 thousand have so far been renewed in about five months, according to National Registration Bureau Deputy Director, Moses Chioni
