Police in Mchinji have arrested 46 traders for allegedly purchasing maize at prices lower than the set K150.00 per kilogram.
The 46 were also allegedly using prohibited weighing scales and had no licenses.
Mchinji Police Station Officer, Charles James Mpezeni said 22 of the traders were arrested on Saturday at Kaigwazanga and Ludzi Trading Centers while 24 of them were arrested on Sunday at Mavwere Trading Centre and Mchinji boma.
One of the farmers in the district, Namilanzi Fredrick commended the police for being vigilant in getting rid of illegal vendors who are swindling them.
