Carl Wallace, the owner of Diablo’s at Augusta, Georgia, gave the world an incredible example of turning a bad situation into an opportunity.

On the morning of April 3, the restaurant’s employees were shocked to find the diner’s front door smashed into pieces, as Elite Readers reports. Mr. Wallace found out that a robber broke into the place in the middle of the night.

Naturally, the owner experienced a burst of anger upon learning what had happened. Speaking to Bored Panda, he said:

“My initial reaction was anger and frustration… typical emotional response anyone would have. After my anger subsided, I kinda thought about it from a different perspective. Because it was Easter weekend, my thoughts turned towards forgiveness.”

Instead of filing a complaint, the restaurant owner chose the path of forgiveness.

After thinking the situation through, Mr. Wallace decided to give the robber an opportunity to right his wrongs. In a statement posted on the official Facebook page of Diablo’s Southwest Grill, he wrote:

“Our burritos are such a smash hit we’ve got people breaking in at 4am for their fix. So if ya see our door looking hurricane fabulous at Wheeler Rd this is why. To the would be robber who is clearly struggling with life decisions or having money issues… please swing by for a job application. There are better opportunities out there than this path you’ve chosen.”

The benevolent business owner then left his phone number, in case the mystery man decides to come along, and assured:

“No police, no questions. Let’s sit down and talk about how we could help you and fix the road you’re on.”

The social media post went viral in no time, gathering thousands of positive reactions. Mr. Wallace shared:

“I decided to make a post offering him a hand up in life vs the typical cycle that hasn’t worked in 200 years. Crime… jail time… harder to land a job because of a criminal record equals back to life of crime and the cycle repeats.”

Although the robber remains unidentified, Diablo’s owner hinted that “an anonymous tip has given us a lead in the case.”
