Murder Convict, Out Of Jail For Daughter’s Wedding, Flees From Custody

A murder convict, who recently stepped out of jail, allegedly fled from police custody on Sunday. The 51-year-old man was escorted to Sultanpur by the Maharashtra Police to attend his daughter’s marriage.

The convict was identified as Ved Prakash Singh. Singh was convicted for life in a murder case in Pune. A native of Anchalgolwara Pakhrawli village, Singh was shifted to Mumbai in the early 90s.

Singh was running a dairy-related business in Mumbai. In 1994, the man committed a murder there and was sentenced to life imprisonment. In 2001, Singh managed to flee from prison and was nabbed in 2019 by the Maharashtra Police, from his ancestral village. Following this, the man was taken to the Yerwada jail in Pune.

On April 30, the man sought a 10-day parole to attend his daughter’s marriage in his ancestral village. The parole was granted to the murder convict and on May 10, he was escorted to his village by a sub-inspector and two constables of the Maharastra Police, The Times of India reported.

Sub-inspector Sachin Nimbalkar, one of the cops who accompanied Singh said that on reaching his house, they asked his relatives to lock him in a room. On May 15, when the cops opened the door, they were shocked to see that Singh was missing. Allegedly, Singh fleed from the room after breaking a window grill.

Nimbalkar said that they made attempts to trace the convict but in vain. An FIR was lodged in connection to the case and efforts are underway to arrest the convict.
