Nankhumwa Calls Tonse Administration To Honor Campaign Promises

Kondwani Nankhumwa, leader of Opposition in the Parliament has called on Tonse Alliance led government to fulfill its campaign promises made to Malawians as they were seeking votes for the infamous June 23, 2020 fresh presidential elections.

Nankhumwa made the call yesterday in the August House when he was responding to President Lazarus Chakwera’s State of Nation Address delivered on May 12, 2020, saying Malawians are impatiently waiting to see the promises being fulfilled.

Nankhumwa said the Tonse Alliance ought to be held accountable based on what it promised Malawians prior to its ascendancy to power.

He said: “Among a litany of the promises, the youths were promised 1 million jobs within the first 12 months, paying the elderly monthly grants and K70 million loan basket under the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF).”

On the other hand, Chakwera and his vice Saulos Chilima have assured Malawians that everything they promised will become a reality and asked the populace to be patient.

The coming in of the global pandemic Coronavirus has frustrated the Tonse Alliance plans to have their promises fulfilled.

However, experts have cautioned the Tonse Alliance leadership of giving excuses when failing to honor their own words.

Among others the Alliance promised to employee one million youths in the first year of their ascendancy to power.
