High Court Judge, Agnes Patemba, has enhanced sentences for five defilement convicts imposed by lower court, Nsanje Magistrate’s Court, from 57 years Imprisonment with Hard Labor (IHL) to 134 years IHL.
Both Patemba and High Court and Supreme Court Registrar, Gladys Gondwe, have confirmed the development.
They say this has enhance the sentences, with some getting 35 years jail terms.
Initially, Nsanje First Grade Magistrate’s Court for example, sentenced Joseph Chiwaya and Lawrence Ching’oma to 9 years IHL and 14 years IHL but got 35-year jail terms respectively following the review.
