Mental Health Problems On The Rise In Ntcheu District

Ntcheu District Hospital says at least 20 people, a majority of them youths, are admitted to the district referral facility weakly due to mental health related problems.

The facility’s Mental Health Clinical Officer, Peter Chafewa has confirmed the development.

Chafewa disclosed this during a mental health and contraceptive awareness yesterday that depression besides drug and substance abuse among youths remain a cause of worry, leading to increased cases of suicide.

While expressing worry with the issue at hand, Family Planning Association of Malawi (Fpam), Social Behavior Change and Communication Lead, Andrew Bishop Mkandawire  said through N’zatonse project phase 4, they are creating demand for mental health services as well those for sexual reproductive health to address the problem in two districts of Ntcheu and Neno.
