MJ Police impound 36 motorcycles, call for sanity on roads

Few days after police in Mulanje impounded 19 motorcycles for contravening road traffic act, the law enforcers have today, June 21, 2021 impounded 36 other motorcycles.

As a continued effort to ensure compliance with road safety regulations, police in the district carried out a special operation targeting motorcycle operators.

The motorcycles have been impounded in various areas such as Chitakale Trading Centre, Nkhonya and at the BOMA.

Most of the impounded motorcycles have no certificates of registration and insurance.

On this note, police reiterate that owners will only get back their cycles upon production of a certificate of registration from the department of road traffic and safety services. Owners are further advised to bring certificates of insurance from competent insurance companies as part of making their motorcycles roadworthy.

Meanwhile, police, led by the traffic personnel is still on ground to ensure total compliance with safety rules.

Police has since assured people in the district of its commitment in enforcing all road safety regulations to reduce road accidents.
