Senior Citizen Kills Mentally Challenged Son, Then Commits Suicide

In a shocking incident reported from Maharashtra capital Mumbai, a 67-year-old man killed his mentally challenged and later committed suicide. The incident took place in Mulund area on Sunday.

The senior citizen identified as Dashrat Gunvant Rao also left a suicide note and stated he was distressed by his 35-year-old son’s disability and decided to kill him. The old man in his purported suicide note also claimed that he killed his son as he was worried about his future.

The murder took place on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday at the house of the accused in  Crown Jewel Apartment at Yogi Hills, according to a report in Hindustan Times.

Initially, the senior citizen gave his and wife ice cream laced with sedatives after which the two slept. Later, the man drowned his son in a water drum after which he committed suicide. The two were rushed to the hospital but they were declared brought dead on arrival.

“On Saturday night, Dashrat mixed sedatives in ice cream and gave it to his wife so that she would sleep in the bedroom. He then gave his son the sedative tablets. Dashrat filled water in a three feet steel box usually used for storing rice and forcefully drowned Yogesh by putting his head in it,” a report in Free Press Journal quoted a police officer as saying.

Police said the man had got retired as engineer from a company around seven years ago. The matter came to light after the woman’s husband regained consciousness and reported the matter to the police.

“We have filed a case against the man for murder, while an accidental death report in the suicide case,” the report quoted V Bhise, senior inspector from Mulund police station, as saying.
