Journalists Seek Refugee From Police IG

Journalist in the country have written the Inspector General of The Malawi Police Service (MPS) George Kainja to reprimand and discipline officers who abuse their power by attacking journalists.

This has been said by Malawi Institute of Southern Africa (MISA), Malawi Chapter Chairperson Teresa Ndanga.

The move by Ndanga is triggered by the recent arrest of a Likoma Community Radio Station 3hreporter Oliver Malibisa.

Ndanga said they feel police officers are impinging on rights of journalists to collect and disseminate information.

Ndanga has since said they expect police officers to desist from any forms of attacks that will derail people’s access to information by attacking the media.
