Scorch Mathews elected as Mangochi District Council Chair

The Mangochi District Council on Monday elected Democratic Progressive Party Councillor, Scorch Mathews, for Malembo Ward as its Chairperson.

Mathews who got 16 votes won the seat after defeating four other councilors, Fatima Chilawi, who got 4 votes, Ali Mwandika, 10 votes, Ivy Sande, 4 votes and Martin Milanzi, 1 vote.

The Council also elected United Democratic Front Councillor, Coaster Bwanali, for Thundu Ward, as Vice Chairperson.

Bwanali outclassed Councillor Hassan Chikuta by 19 to 16 votes.
