Police in Mzimba district has instituted a manhunt for 9 people alleged to have escaped from police cells at Kafukule police post on Thursday where they were being kept after committing various offenses.
A statement released by the Police has disclosed that two of the escapees were murder suspects, two were defilement suspects and the rest were being kept for theft offenses.
It is alleged that the officer on duty was drunk and had opened the cells took one defilement suspect who wanted to drink water to his home a thing which made it possible for the others to escape.
