Lilongwe mother flees after dumping newly born baby in toilet

Police in Kawale have launched a manhunt for a suspected baby dumper, believed to have given birth to a baby girl and for unknown reason she let loose the child into a toilet.
According to a report lodged at Area 23 Police Unit, the incident occurred during the wee hours of August 10, 2021 at Area 44 .
Sergeant Mabvuto Phiri, Kawale Police Station Public Relations Officer said the saga came to limelight when the block leader for the area, Henderson Malekano heard the cry of a baby within the compound.
“After a thorough search, he realised that the cry was coming from the toilet. This prompted him to invite his neighbors who jointly dug the toilet and successfully rescued the dumped baby girl,” said the PRO.
The child is believed to be a single day old, and she is in stable condition.
Police is appealing to members of the community to share information that can help in locating the mother of the baby.
