There was drama at the High court in Lilongwe as politician Grelzedar Jeffrey shed tears and knelt down, asking for forgiveness in a defamation case.

She was appearing before High Court Judge William Msiska in a defamation case involving Minister of Youth, Ulemu Msungama.

The incident happened in 2017 during campaign period when Jeffrey had allegedly uttered defamatory words against Msungama.

In a video clip shown in court as evidence, Jeffrey is captured telling people not to vote for Msungama as he had ‘raped his own cousin’ and that the case was in court, among other things.

And now that the evidence was brought in court, Jeffrey had to kneel down whilst crying, asking for forgiveness.

Defence lawyer Gilbert Khonyongwa said they will be officially writing the offended party.

He says it is up to Msungama to decide whether he wants the apology published or not.

On his part, Msungama said he was happy that the case has reached this far.

He said he is ready to forgive her but warned all politicians to refrain from insulting one another, all for political power.

Justice William Msiska has since granted the two parties an out-of-court settlement order and to report back once all is done to close the case.
