DPP’s Presidential case adjourned to September 29

The High Court sitting as Constitutional Court in Blantyre has set September 29 as the date to continue with the preliminary hearing of the case where DPP wants 2020 Presidential Election results nullified.

Judge Silvester Kalembera leading a panel of five judges announced the date before adjournment of the first preliminary hearing of the matter on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Attorney General, Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda, said he is confident the case will be dismissed.

He told journalists after the hearing that reasons for dismissal will include that the aggrieved candidate was supposed to complain to court and not his party.

Earlier in the day, admonished DPP lawyers for presenting faulty documents in court.

Some of the documents, including the case check list, have Charles Mhango as lawyer but bear his brother Burton Mhango’s signature.

Judge Sylvester Kalembera said this should never have happened, looking at Charles Mhango’s stature in the legal fraternity.
