Salima Police Burn Tons Of Chamba

Police in Salima have destroyed over six tons of Indian hemp locally known as Chamba by burning.

Salima Police spokesperson Sub Inspector Jacob Khembo confirmed of the development.

According to Khembo, the move is to remind the general public that Indian hemp remains illegal in the country.

He further added that a lot of people who were found with the product, are currently serving jail terms.

A similar activity took place in November last year where over six tons was also destroyed.

The Malawi government through Parliament passed a bill in which allows people to plant and make product using the product, but one has to have a license.

However, there has been an outcry from the general public on the fee that is required for one to get the license.
